YOUNG mental health champions and those that exceed all expectations will be recognised in this year's Pride of Somerset Youth Awards (POSYA).

Founded by the Rotary Club of Taunton, the awards were created to honour the amazing achievements of young individuals throughout the county, whether it be in the arts, sports, or even overcoming personal challenges.

Sponsored by Bounce Forward, the Championing Positive Mental Health Award is dedicated in celebrating young people who engage in promoting mental well-being. This could be for both themselves and those around them.

Bounce Forward works to support young people's mental health via experts in training teachers and parents, which helps them make a difference to young people's lives.

The charity's website reads: "We develop psychological fitness, the combination of mental resilience and emotional wellbeing. A charity with a difference, creating big impact in the most important topic of the 21st century."

The Young Person of the Year Award is also up for grabs. This award recognises those that have demonstrated amazing dedication and drive to achieve their goals, whether it be in sport, academia, charity fundraising and more.

This prestigious title is sponsored by Bridgwater & Taunton College, which has a reputation as being a successful provider of training and education.

Speaking when the awards were launched, Andy Berry, principal and CEO of Bridgwater & Taunton College, said: “We are delighted to sponsor these awards. Young people from across the county go above and beyond, often in the face of adversity, achieving amazing things.

"This is an opportunity to reflect on and recognise their achievements. I am looking forward to hearing their amazing stories and celebrating their accomplishments.”
