An environmental consultant for a Yeovil-based company will run The London Marathon for the first time to raise £2,000 for WaterAid.

Nick Spellissy, from NPT Engineering & Environmental Ltd, will tackle the 26.2-mile distance on April 21.

Inspired by the diverse projects undertaken by the charity globally, WaterAid is an organisation that has been working to improve global access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene since 1981.

One in 10 people worldwide still live without access to clean water, a statistic that Mr Spellissy hopes to change.

He said: "It seems fitting that I can now support WaterAid in their aims to increase the volume of clean water available by simply getting out and running some miles."

Nick Spellissy values his work on water infrastructure projects and his decade of experience in the field.

His running journey began when he completed his first marathon in Leeds in May 2023.

Regular short-distance runs kept him active and fit.

However, drawn to the benefits of mental health, he expanded his challenges to longer distances, seeing running as much a mental exercise as a physical one.

His passion for running has grown, facing road runs as an opportunity for a mental break.

Training for the big day started in November, with weekly local parkruns in Clevedon aiding Mr Spellissy to reach his mileage target and improve pace.
