PORTISHEAD'S RNLI team has received its first call out of 2024.

Yesterday evening (Thursday, January 25), crews were called out to support a search for a missing person along the coastline towards Clevedon.

However, just as they received Battery Point, they were instructed to stand down.

Posting on Facebook, a spokesperson from the RNLI Portishead team said: "January 25, lifeboat volunteers launched on service at 7.28pm to support a search for a person along the coastline towards Clevedon.

"Just as the lifeboat crew reached Battery Point in Portishead, they were stood down.

"This is the first call out for the volunteers for 2024."

The charity organisation, which saves lives day in, day out, has been saving lives since 1824.

Its work ranges from helping people stranded on boats, islands, and even helping animals who find themselves in difficulty in bodies of water.
