PLANS have been submitted to build a new Timpson pod retail unit at the site of Sainsbury's in Portishead.

The planning application, which was validated on January 22, refers to Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd on Serbert Way.

The application reads: "Proposed erection of a concessionary Timpson retail pod unit located on an area of the existing Sainsbury's car park and creation of a new pedestrian access/crossing on Sainsburys Supermarkets Ltd Serbert Way."

The application's cover letter adds: "The proposal comprises a small part of the existing customer car park for the Sainsbury’s store. The foodstore building is located to the north of the site. The wider store site comprises of a petrol filling station to the southwest of the building and a service yard to the east.

"The site is sufficiently distanced from any nearby residential frontages. Beyond the store is the Gordano Gate Business Park and Premier Inn to the southeast. To the west is Portishead Business Park that contains a range of commercial and industrial units.

"To the north is the Harbour Road Trading Estate separated from the store building by green space and Harbour Road. The site is sufficiently distanced from any heritage assets of national and local significance".
