A DANCE school has raised over £5,000 to help fund urgent roof repairs at Clevedon  Community Centre.

Over the weekend of January 6-7, Bristol School of Dancing wowed audiences at four fundraising shows at Princes Hall.

The talented dancers impressed attendees with their skill, artistry and energy.

A cheque of £5,376 was presented to trustees of the centre on January 20, which runs both the community centre and Princes Hall.

Felicity Redgrave, the school principal, said: "Clevedon Community Centre is part of our history - we have been performing here for 50 years.

"We are delighted to help with the ongoing effort to restore these beautiful buildings."

Richard Young, chair of Clevedon Community Association, added: "Not only is this an incredible gift in itself, but it also demonstrates that the community values and supports us, which helps us secure other grants."

The Clevedon Community Centre's website details its history: "Home to the Woodington family until the early 1940's, Sunhill House was bought by the people of Clevedon and opened as a Community Centre in 1949.

"There are several rooms for hire in Sunhill House. These vary in size and are suitable for meetings and presentations. Some rooms have laminated flooring and are ideal for dance and exercise classes.

"The Squirrels Restaurant is open Monday to Friday, serving morning coffee between 10am and 12pm, and lunch between 12pm and 1:30pm.

"Adjoining Sunhill House is the Princes Hall and Jubilee Lounge, the largest venue in the vicinity. Built in the 1960s, the Princes Hall features a fully equipped stage with dressing rooms and can seat up to 250 people theatre-style.

"The Hall is also an ideal venue for weddings, parties and dances. The Jubilee Lounge was added in 1976, and boasts a well-stocked bar at competitive prices.

"Clevedon Community Centre is unique in North Somerset in that it is self-financing. It is run by Clevedon Community Association, a registered charity."

The Princes Hall features a stage with sound, lighting and dressing rooms. It seats up to 250 people.

The hall can be hired for parties, dances, wedding receptions and various productions.

The adjoining Jubilee Lounge has a bar and a coffee bar.
