Four leaders of Nailsea Health Walks have been recognised with long service awards by North Somerset Council.

Diane Bennett, Vivian Parsons, Brian Webb and Gordon Bennett were commended for 15 years of service as dedicated volunteers.

This was not only for setting up the walks originally but for continuous involvement in the initiative.

For a committed decade of service, Colin Stone, Robert Brierley, Margaret Kendall and Cynthia Gardiner also received accolades.

The council’s physical activity specialist, Kira Thorpe, presented the awards, thanking the recipients for their exemplary services over the years.

Ms Thorpe said: "The regular walks provide an incentive for people to take part each week."

She further emphasised the health benefits of walking and its social benefits

The weekly strolls in Nailsea, organised on Monday mornings at 11am, start from either the Grove Leisure Centre or Scotch, switching every month.

Walkers have options ranging from a half-hour easy pace to an hour-long, brisk stride.

The varied options cater for various levels of fitness, including those using sticks and walkers.

This scheme is an optimal way to enhance fitness levels while indulging in some company.

The community is more than welcome to join and participate in these free walks, arranged and funded by the North Somerset Council with the help of the volunteers.
