POLICE carrying out checks on a road in a North Somerset village stopped 84 drivers in a 90-minute clampdown.

Officers from North Somerset Neighbourhood Policing spoke to the drivers in connection with illegal manouvres in North Road, Abbots Leigh.

A further 15 vehicles who spotted the police operation turned around during the initiative yesterday morning (Tuesday, November 28)..

Motorists are being warned that next time they are in the area offending drivers will receive fines.

A spokesperson for North Somerset Neighbourhood Policing said: "Yesterday PCSOs from the Nailsea Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted vehicle checks in North Road, Abbots Leigh.

"Vehicles are prohibited from turning into the road from Abbots Leigh Road (A369) between 7.30am and 9am.

"84 drivers spoken to and given words of advice. 15 vehicles turned around before reaching us!

"Tickets will be issued to drivers when we are there next."
