NORTH Somerset Council is hosting the world's largest in-person Carbon Literacy training day to demonstrate their commitment in making the region carbon neutral by 2030.

The council will host the free of charge event on December 4, which also happens to be Carbon Literacy Action Day.

Normally, the training, which was created by the Carbon Literacy Project, costs £125. The purpose behind the training is to improve local people's understanding of the causes and impacts of our everyday greenhouse gas emissions.

Not only that, but the course will help you identify ways you can save on your energy costs.

The organisation's website reads: "The Carbon Literacy Project offers everyone a day’s worth of Carbon Literacy learning, covering – climate change, carbon footprints, how you can do your bit, and why it’s relevant to you and your audience.

"The Carbon Literacy Project is globally unique – there is nothing else quite like it anywhere. It was recognised as such by the UN at COP21, in Paris, where it was awarded as a TAP100, one of 100 worldwide Transformative Action Programs.

"Carbon Literacy (CL) is aimed at three distinct audiences – Those that live, Those that work, and, Those that study. This allows us to capture all audiences in our aim to offer every citizen Carbon Literacy learning."

Cllr Annemieke Waite, North Somerset Council’s executive member for climate, said: “We want to create a thriving and sustainable North Somerset, and we know that education is one of the greatest tools we have when transitioning to become a net zero area.

“If you’re looking for a way to kickstart your journey to net zero, either at home or for your business or organisation, this is your chance to reduce costs, understand the implications of climate change and help make North Somerset a healthier, happier and greener place to live and work.

“North Somerset Council is proud to be an accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, with a Silver award.

"By attending our training course, your business or organisation will be well on the way to becoming accredited too.”

The training day, which will take place at the Winter Gardens in Weston for up to 350 delegates, has been funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and will feature guest speakers from the climate industry.

You must register your interest online by Tuesday, October 31 on the council's website.
