THE Moonlight Memory Walk, hosted by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), will take place on Saturday, October 7 in the scenic route of Clevedon, Sara Badran writes.

The Moonlight Memory Walk offers friends and families the opportunity to celebrate the lives and remembrances of their loved ones throughout the walk with lights, live music, and spaces to pause and reflect.

The CHSW now offers three hospices in the South West and works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure the comfort, care, and support for both children living with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Clare Toller, a mother who was supported by the Charlton Farm Hospice throughout the difficult loss of her son, Grayson, who passed away at just 10 weeks old, explains the tremendous impact this had on her family and why she will be participating in the Moonlight Memory Walk.

She said: “At just 36 weeks specialists told us that my son had a very rare condition involving dysplasia of all his heart valves and his heart muscle itself was abnormal.

"In view of this, the outlook for survival was very bleak. Following several discussions, we decided palliative care would be the best option for Grayson to keep him as comfortable as possible in the short time he was expected to live.”

Clare spoke further about the care the family received. She said: “We are grateful for all that they have done for our family; we don’t know where we would be without them.

"Because of this we all have some fantastic memories that will last a lifetime that we could not have achieved if we had been anywhere else. And for that I am eternally grateful.

"I class myself as being very privileged to have been able to go to the most magical and special place.”

The exceptional care CHSW provide families such as Clare's will create a foundation of support, hope, and love amid challenging times.

The Moonlight Memory Walk invites and offers unity to walk together and remember loved ones at this incredibly special event.

Events fundraiser for CHSW, Hollie Thorogood, said: “We are delighted to work with Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust on our first Moonlight Memory Walk, and incorporate the beautiful pier into the route.

"Walkers are encouraged to raise sponsorship for CHSW in memory of their loved ones, helping to raise funds to ensure children like Grayson and families like Clare’s have access to care and support from a local children’s hospice.

"It is a very poignant event, and this incredible location is going to make the evening all the more special so please take advantage of the early-bird tickets.”
