THE countdown has begun for this year's Clevedon Flower Show.

The much-anticipated event, which will take place at the Salthouse Fields, will start on Saturday, August 26 and finish the next day.

This will be the 125th Clevedon Flower Show, which continues to be organised by a small committee of dedicated residents.

The Clevedon Flower Show website reads: "Clevedon Flower Show is held each year on the Saturday and Sunday preceding the August Bank Holiday.

"Run by a small committee of dedicated residents it aims to showcase the very best locally grown flowers, fruit and vegetables, handicrafts, photography, art, home baking, preserving, brewing and wine making (to name but a few categories!)"

There will be classes available for all ages and abilities, from expert growers to those just starting out.

Money raised will be donated to The Clevedon District Foodbank this year. The charity, which is part of The Trussell Trust, aims to tackle food inequality.

The Trussell Trust's website reads: "Between April 2022 and March 2023, food banks in our network provided almost 3 million food supplies to people in crisis, a 37% increase on the previous year.

"Our network of more than 1,300 food bank centres in the UK provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food to people who have been referred, as well as support and advice to help people maximise their incomes and lift themselves out of poverty.

"We recognise that ending hunger is about more than food. We support and encourage our food banks to provide compassionate, practical support to people in crisis to tackle the root causes that lock people into poverty and build people’s resilience so they are less likely to need a food bank in the future."
