TICKENHAM'S zero carbon housing development is nearing completion.
There is only one home left to be snapped up on the 32-house Ryves Vale development, which has been built by Newland Homes.
The housing development, located on Clevedon Road, comes complete with a wildflower meadow, woodland and a natural play area.
In order to make the area more environmentally friendly, 1,000 young trees have been planted and 380ms of hedgehog highway laid, enabling hedgehogs to easily traverse the site.
472 solar panels have been erected on the homes, over 13,500 m2 of insulation installed in the ground, walls and ceilings of the homes, 32 air source heat pumps are up and running and 32 electric car chargers connected.
According to the developer, homeowners are reporting running costs of just £3.57 a week to power a four bedroom detached property, which can cost less than a cup of coffee.
Obligatory standing charges applied by the energy companies are on top of this.
Just one property remains, a four bedroom detached Sherston house.
The Sherston is a double-fronted home with dual aspect kitchen, dining and sun lounge, boasting floor to ceiling windows which provide a panoramic view of the south-facing garden.
Marcus Evans, sales & marketing director for Newland Homes, said: “Our homes are the most significant investment we’re ever likely to make and everyone rightly wants to ensure they will be fit for the future.
"The homes at Ryves Vale fit that bill, whilst reducing bills in other areas. As an independent housebuilder based in the South West, we were one of the first companies to start building zero carbon homes and in doing so, have revolutionised the way homes are built in the UK.”
Dr Liam Fox MP visited the site when construction commenced. Speaking at the time, he said: “Carbon neutral quality housing, in small developments attuned to local circumstances, is the housing we need for the future.”
The last home at Ryves Vale in Tickenham is priced at £629,000, with up to £20,000-worth of tailored incentives.
