A CYCLIST from Banwell has completed a 57 mile ride to raise money for a Bridgwater charity.
Andrea tackled the Great Weston Ride in just 4.5 hours. Andrea's efforts were rewarded, as she managed to raise an impressive £750 for Brainwave, a charity that helps children with disabilities.
Andrea said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to complete this physical and emotional challenge that I set for myself.
"To raise £750 is amazing and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way.
"Brainwave is a wonderful charity and I’m delighted to do my bit and show my support.”
Keith Sinclair, CEO of Brainwave, said: “As a charity we rely heavily on the good will of individuals like Andrea and would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her commitment and fantastic cycling effort too.
"I’m sure Andrea will be inspiring many more people to give themselves a challenge and to help us raise vital funds to help even more children across the country.”
Brainwave’s multidisciplinary team consists of qualified physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and learning and development specialists.
The charity currently has 250 children following a Brainwave Therapy Programme, which helps the brain find new pathways by providing regular repetition of newly acquired skills.
The Brainwave website reads: "Brainwave is a charity that exists to help children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence by aiming to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of specialist therapies.
"The Brainwave Programme aims to develop the maximum potential of each child by taking an integrated approach to their physical and cognitive development and by aiming to enhance a child’s social skills and emotional wellbeing."
Posting on Facebook, a spokesperson from the charity said: "Congratulations to Andrea for recently completing the Weston Bike Ride and raising a fantastic £750 for Brainwave.
"Andrea completed 57 miles in 4.5 hours. The conditions were mostly wet and windy but the sun did make an appearance when she reached the finish line in Weston.
"She said the last 10 miles were quite tough, but she kept going by thinking of the charity.
"Thank you so much Andrea for your hard work and determination to raise money for Brainwave."
