A ROAD near Bristol Airport will be closed from tomorrow (July 20) to allow works to take place for the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

North Somerset Council will be closing the A38 road at Barrow Tanks to all traffic, starting at the junction of the A38 Bridgwater Road and the B3130 Barrow Street.

The work carried out will include planing the road surface, relaying a new surface, putting in road markings, and installing traffic signal equipment.

Emergency access will be maintained throughout.

Although diversions will be in place, all customers are advised to allow additional time to get to and from the airport. If you are planning on using public transport, it is recommended that you check with the provider to see if the bus or coach service is operating or not.

The diversion route for public transport may add up to 40 minutes onto your travel time.

The Bus Services Improvement Plan will see bus travel become faster, greener, and more reliable.

The council's website reads: "The Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) is our major investment programme in partnership with the West of England Combined Authority.

"The aim is to improve the quality and provision of bus services so that these are used more than private cars. This will make North Somerset a greener place to live, contributing to our focus on addressing the climate emergency.

"To achieve this ambitious programme, we have identified a number of opportunities improve bus services in key areas. We are redesigning over 18 junctions and routes which are known to cause delays to services. We will be engaging with key stakeholders over the course of the programme, sharing designs and seeking views."
