WEST Backwell Bowling Club is celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III in style  by hosting a 'Right Royal Tea Party with a Right Royal Heritage' event.

Bowls is a sport that has, historically, been enjoyed by nobility, from King James I to Anne Boleyn to Queen Victoria.

Even the late Queen Elizabeth II appreciated the sport, acting as Patron of Bowls England.

This year, it will be the first coronation of a sovereign to take place in the United Kingdom since Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Westminster Abbey will take centre stage when the King is crowned at midday during the coronation ceremony.

The service will begin at 11am and will continue until 1pm when the newly crowned King and Queen embark on their coronation procession back to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach.

Royal fans can tune into the entire spectacle, which will be filmed live by the BBC.

To celebrate this, on Monday, May 8, from 2pm until 5pm, the club will be hosting a wide range of bowling activities, with plenty of refreshments to keep you going.

Grace Higgins, chairperson for the club, said: “Given the noble heritage of bowls it seems only fitting that West Backwell Bowling Club is the perfect venue for a coronation celebration.

“Unlike King Henry III’s bowling events, in Backwell the club is always open for the enjoyment of all. Everyone is welcome!  You can have a go at bowls, eat cake, enjoy a drink on the terrace or do all three!  What you will definitely get is a Right Royal welcome!

“A big thank you must go to St Monica’s Trust Charitable Impact programme who have provided some funding to help us make this event even more special.”

If you or someone you know wants to try out bowls at the club, there will be weekly Try Bowls Tuesdays from May 9.

It doesn't matter if you have never tried the sport before, all you need to bring is some flat, comfortable shoes.

These sessions will be run by experienced coaches and beginners from last year.

For anyone that may be unsure, the event will be located in the park on West Town Road.
