STAFF at a Portishead hair and beauty salon will don pink outfits on Friday (October 21) for Wear it Pink Day, part of their activities to support October being Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Tonic Hair and Beauty in Portishead has supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month for many years, but this year is more important than ever to the team, as salon assistant manager Sam Parfrey is about to complete her chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month when thousands of people wear pink to raise awareness and organise fundraising activities to raise money for the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now.

Simone Williams, who owns the salon with her sister Nadine, said: “We are determined to raise as much money for breast cancer charities as we can this month.

"Sam has been a true inspiration over the past year as she has coped with everything thrown at her on her breast cancer journey and we hope to pull out all the stops to raise more money than in previous years in recognition of this.”

Tonic has put up a Tree of Hope in the Combe Road salon and invites members of the public to pop in to the salon, make a donation and write a message or name on a pink ribbon bow to hang on the tree.

Other in-salon fundraising activities include guess how many pink flamingos are on a collage at the salon reception desk and Tonic is donating 10 per cent of the sales of their new DIBI Milano treatments to the charity.

Nadine added: “Our fundraising activities are not just for our clients. Our door is open six days a week and we invite everyone to pop in and donate to this important cause.”
