Nailsea residents fear a beauty spot will be built on after they failed to buy it at auction
A GROUP of neighbours failed to buy a Nailsea wildlife site despite raising 30,000 for the auction.
Melanie Gould, of Nowhere Lane, and a number of friends from the street, had hoped to buy the small copse and adjoining meadow to protect the beauty spot from development.
But although they managed to raise thousands of pounds they were outbid at the auction and the copse was sold for 36,500.
People living near the beauty spot are now concerned the site will be developed on.
Mrs Gould said: “I live nearby in an adjoining property. It’s very precious to a lot of people in the area. It’s used by a lot of dog walkers, horse riders and cyclists who love to use the lane. It’s a local beauty spot. We are not certain what will be done with it now.”
Residents have now written to the new owner to ask for a meeting to discuss his plans to fence off the area.
