MONEY for much-needed repairs to Clevedon’s Marine Lake will be raised during one of the town’s biggest annual events.

The Clevedon Marine Lake Festival takes place from Friday to Sunday with three days of action-packed fun planned for hundreds of expected revellers.

Run by the not-for-profit organisation MARLENS, the festival will include attractions, entertainment and activities on the lake, which was built in 1929 as a major leisure facility for the town. The event is now in its seventh year.

MARLENS chairman Joe Norman said: “This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever and there’s a real buzz of anticipation in the local community.

“The Marine Lake is a sea-front jewel and we are determined to do all we can to ensure it’s there for future generations to enjoy.”

During the festival, daring visitors will have the chance to take part in zorbing, which allows people to walk on water using an inflatable plastic ball.

A raft race will be held on the lake at 1pm on Sunday and there will also be canoeing, sailing and model boat racing during the weekend.

Live music will be performed by a range of acts including Clevedon singer Cemlyn Jones and the entertainment will also include dance troupes. These will take place on stage at the Salthouse Fields from noon to 10pm on Saturday and noon to 6pm on Sunday.

A grand firework display will also be held over the lake at 7.30pm on Saturday.

From noon to 2pm on Saturday there will be tug of war competitions followed by a family It’s a Knockout competition.

From 10am-1pm on Sunday there will be dog agility displays and from 1-3pm there will be truck pull challenges.

From 10am onwards on both Saturday and Sunday there will also be numerous stalls set up by charity and commercial sellers, sideshows, games, a climbing wall and a children’s gym for revellers to enjoy.

On Friday, the festival will hold it schools day when pupils from across North Somerset will have the chance to take part in activities on the lake and the Salthouse fields.
