A RESPECTED Clevedon canoeing instructor has been short-listed for a prestigious national award.
Alison Holland was nominated in the Female Coach of the Year category of the British Canoe Union volunteering awards and has now been entered into the finals of the competition.
The 46-year-old only began canoeing about four years ago and is a member of Clevedon Canoe Club, with which she has become a coach and now holds regular teaching sessions on the town’s Marine Lake.
The mother-of-two, who works as a learning support assistant at St John Primary School, said: “I didn’t know I had been nominated until I received a letter. I thought it must have been a joke at first.”
Alison, of Westerleigh Road, will find out if she has won the national award during a glittering ceremony in Nottingham on November 19, which she will attend with her husband Steve.
