A RESTORATION project at Wraxall’s Tyntesfield estate has been short-listed for a prestigious national award.
The scheme to restore the site’s Grade II-listed orangery back to its former glory is one of four projects that will compete in the best craftmanship category in the English Heritage Angel Awards.
The project to save the historic Tyntesfield building has been undertaken by the National Trust and students from the City of Bath College.
Phase one of the restoration is now complete, with the orangery being given a new roof, and Bath students are due to return this autumn to continue the work.
Once the focal point of the estate’s kitchen garden, the orangery had deteriorated so badly over the years it was added to English Heritage’s Buildings at Risk Register within the highest priority category.
The winners of the Angel Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on October 31.
