THE future of Nailsea’s Victorian Christmas fair looks bleak after a community group which wanted to take it over pulled out.

The Christmas fair committee, made up of traders and volunteers, cancelled last year’s fair due to a lack of community help.

And now members of Nailsea Lions Club, who were negotiating with the committee about taking it on have said the club does not have the resources.

Committee chairman, Gilly Chu said: “It is a shame as the fair was a great community event and it was really missed last year.

“We are hoping that another group or someone from the town might want to get involved in running it.

“It doesn’t have to be a trader or a council member, or even a group, it can be anyone, maybe just a mum or dad.”

The committee wants to put funds raised from previous fairs into a trust account for future organisers.

If unclaimed after five years the funds would be given to local causes.

The event, including stalls selling festive goods and food, as well as a fairground in Clevedon Road car park, and traditional rides along the High Street, had been running for 15 years.
