IMAGINATIVE initiatives have been thought up to help raise money for new facilities at Clevedon Pier.
The trust which runs the seafront landmark hopes to collect enough cash to pay for a �1million project which will see a glass structure built at the land end, housing a tea room, toilets and educational facilities.
Bids have already been made to organisations including the Heritage Lottery Fund but pier staff need to carry on their fundraising efforts.
On April 7, members of the 1st Clevedon Scout Group will carry out a sponsored plaque clean – bringing back the shine to the numerous plaques placed on the pier’s planks to commemorate birthdays, anniversaries or weddings or placed in memory of lost loved ones.
Anyone wishing for their plaque to be cleaned in return for a �1donation can turn up on the day from noon to 5pm or pop into the pier toll house to make the request beforehand. Proceeds will be split between the pier and the scout group.
Another cash-collecting scheme, entitled the Great Pier Potato Plant, will see visitors to the pier in April invited to take home and plant a potato seed ready for a weigh-in of the products later in the year. Entry is �2.50 and more details are available at the pier.
