CLEVEDON’S Salvation Army majors will be moving on after nine years in the town.
Majors William and Hazel Slade have been given a new appointment and from July will take on responsibility for the Salvation Army corps work in Newton Abbot and Brixham.
As well as the couple’s Salvation Army duties in Clevedon and the surrounding church district, in the past nine years William has been the chaplain for the organisation’s homeless and addiction centre in Bristol and has undertaken the role of chaplain to Avon and Somerset police, Andrew House in Clevedon and Clevedon Town Council.
He said: “It has been a wonderful nine years and we will be sorry to move – Clevedon and our church district is a wonderful community and church congregation and we have made many friends. It has been a privilege.
“If I was asked about a regret it would be that we have been unable to provide better facilities to be able to serve the people of Clevedon. The search for alternative or better facilities will go on.”
Majors Michael and Rebecca Eden, who are currently based in Kingswood, Bristol, will take over the role in Clevedon.
