The UK is set to leave the EU on January 31 – after receiving another extension from Brussels last month – and the candidates standing in North Somerset have outlined what they would do, if elected to be North Somerset’s MP on December 12.

Liam Fox - Conservatives:

I am the only candidate in North Somerset who believes in delivering Brexit.

We must have a House of Commons willing to honour the decision made by the British people, in a democratic referendum, to leave the European Union.

Whether we voted to leave or remain I believe this is now an issue as much about democracy itself as it is about Brexit.

When Parliament made the decision to hold the referendum it said the issue would be decided by the British people and Parliament will abide by that decision. A majority Conservative Government will do that.

Philip Neve - Green Party:

The unnecessary chaos that is Brexit has split the country in half and robbed us of three years of functional government.

It was decided on practically zero real information about the true implications and effects and has led to huge cynicism and disillusionment for many in our elected representative democratic system.

It will, however, be resolved in one way relatively soon and after that we have to tackle the real issues that affect our lives.

I support a second vote to choose between any deal is struck by the new Government or to remain.

Hannah Young - Labour:

A Labour Government will get Brexit sorted within six months by giving the British people the final say.

It won't be a re-run of 2016. The choice will be between leaving with a sensible deal - that doesn't wreak huge economic damage - or remaining in the European Union.

If you want to leave the EU without trashing our economy or selling out our NHS, you'll be able to vote for that.

If you want to remain in the EU, you will be able to vote for that.

Either way, only a Labour Government will put the final decision in your hands.

Ashley Cartman - Liberal Democrats:

People are fed up with Brexit and realise it has become a national embarrassment.

Boris Johnson's Conservative Party and Labour are determined to pursue Brexit.

A vote for Boris Johnson's Conservatives is either a vote for us to crash out of the EU with no deal next year, or for several more years of chaotic trade negotiations.

The Liberal Democrats is the only truly Remain party and want to stop Brexit, either by winning the General Election or, if we don't, by giving you a vote on the final deal with the option to remain.
