North Somerset Arts Week 1 - 10 May 2015
North Somerset Arts Week is back and Congresbury is celebrating its creative talent at three excellent local venues. Art and Crafts by Seven Artists is showing at The Refectory. Middlecombe Nursery is hosting an exhibition of John Lyndum Roberts’ bird sculptures. And The Old School Rooms presents four artists working in oil and mixed media, textiles, ceramic and wood. The exhibitions are free and each venue is open daily all week.
Sales all summer
If you want to pick up some great quality plants don’t miss the Congresbury Plant Sale on Saturday May 2 2015 at Methodist Hall. Run by the local horticultural society, the sale is good for picking up hints and tips on who’s growing what and where this summer. Or, if you’re looking for something you can’t put down, head to War Memorial Hall on the second and fourth Saturday of every month for the Book Sale. There’s a huge selection of CDs, DVDs, books, audio books and magazines so you’re sure to find something to interest you.
Congresbury Open Gardens June 7 2015
This year Congresbury has five beautiful gardens taking part in the NGS Open Gardens for Charity scheme. Romantic Fernbank, Middlecombe’s involving three acre nursery and 29 Stonewell Lane’s wildlife-friendly garden in parts, are already local favourites. Joining them for 2015 are Church House’s interconnecting Andalusian and Japanese influenced courtyards and 18 Stonewell Lane with its modern garden ‘rooms’. This worthwhile event is a great opportunity to see first-hand what other North Somerset gardeners are doing. You can pick up ideas and inspiration to take home to your own garden. And don’t forget to make time for tea, the home baking is superb.
A free family day out getting to know the Congresbury Yeo
Join wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers on Millennium Green at Congresbury July 5 2015 for a day of unforgettable exploration, wild activity and all round family adventure. The aim is to uncover the secrets of the Congresbury Yeo and that involves discovering its predators, learning about bugs and beasts, creating an interactive wildlife map, building rafts and much, much more. The fun starts at 11am and goes right on till 4pm and everyone is welcome to come along and take part – don’t forget to pack a picnic. For details call 01934 834282. Classic and Vintage Car Rally
Summer wouldn’t be summer in North Somerset without at least one classic car rally. This year’s event at Congresbury takes place on July 5 2015. Owners of vintage and classic cars taking part also have the option of a rally Treasure Hunt through the Mendips followed by a hog roast lunch at The White Hart in Wrington. And if you don’t have a classic car – yet – you’re very welcome to come along and admire some of North Somerset’s finest at Cadbury Garden Centre car park from 8.30am. All proceeds from the Classic and Vintage Car Rally go to Congresbury New Village Hall Development Fund.
