Critically-acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, reunites with Antonio Banderas for his latest flick, the meditative and often whimsical, Pain and Glory (Dolor y Gloria), and readers could win tickets to see the film at Clevedon’s Curzon cinema.
Pain And Glory tells the story of Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline, who recounts his life through a series of flashbacks and re-encounters.
The film traces back his life when he grew up in the 1960s, when he emigrated with his parents to a village near Valencia in search of prosperity, his first adult love in the Madrid of the 80s and the pain of the breakup of that love while it was still alive and intense.
All these life experiences helped shape his writing career.
In recovering his past, Mallo finds the urgent need to recount it, and in that need he also finds his salvation.
Banderas won the coveted best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival this year for his turn as Mallo.
Previously the award-winning actor worked with Almodóvar on the BAFTA winning 2011 Psychological horror The Skin I Live In.
Pain And Glory will be shown at the Curzon cinema, in Old Church Road, on September 22 at 7.30pm.
Tickets, priced £5-21, are available at www.curzon.org.uk or on 01275 871000.
