One-man show about historic biographer to be shown in Backwell

A one-man show about England’s first biographer will be performed in North Somerset next week.

John Aubrey, who lived in the 1600s, was the author of Brief Lives, a selection of short biographical pieces on prominent scientists, explorers, and writers from his time.

Patrick Garland is performing in Brief Lives to explore his writings.

The show will represent a day in the latter part of Aubrey’s life.

Patrick said: “It is as if one is paying a visit to the house of an old man, who makes up for the absence of friends by bringing to life reminiscences of people, remembering them and telling stories about them.”

Brief Lives will be performed at the Backwell Playhouse, in Mariners Drive, on May 17-19 at 8pm.
