The start of September may feel too early to be considering Christmas and the seasonal festivities, but in Portishead it is necessary to plan ahead.

That is because the Portishead Players drama group will begin preparations for their winter programme next week when auditions start for this year’s pantomime.

Auditions will be held on Saturday and September 19 to make sure the cast is in place for the start of December.

The Players have chosen to perform Beauty And The Beast this year, and their search for stars is about to begin.

The first audition, starting at 2pm, will be for children, with the second three days later to cast adults. Both will be held at the Folk Hall.

The well-known magical tale will be directed by Janet Astley and Karley Hughes.
