Hidden Figures will be shown by Portishead Film on November 3.

The little-known efforts of three black American women who helped their country win the space race will be showcased on the big screen in Portishead next week.

Hidden Figures shows how the trio beat the odds of society and science to make a big difference.

While you might think getting into NASA was the tough part, the women realise that is only half the battle.

In the early 1960s the headquarters was segregated in terms of employees’ skin colour, so no matter how impressive their scientific efforts, they were not allowed to share bathrooms or even coffee machines with their white colleagues.

Hidden Figures will be shown by Portishead Film at Jubilee Hall, in Slade Road, on November 3.

Tickets, priced £5, are available on the door. Doors open at 7.30pm with the film screening beginning 30 minutes later.
