ZIMMERS closed the gap at the top of the Wrington Vale Billiards League to a single point after defeating Short Frames 3-1, with leaders Social Climbers being held to a 2-2 draw by No Hopers.

Backwell B played host to Backwell A and the opening game saw George Rowe take on the returning Alan Spear, who played well in the early stages to overcome George’s handicap and going on to win by 21.

There was never much in the second game between Dennis Mansfield and Pete Wood with the players matching each other most of the way through. In the end Dennis held on to level the match for the B team with a seven point win.

Martyn Howell started much the better in the final game against Bob Selby and knocked in four good breaks while moving into the lead and securing a 3-1 win for his side with a 150-113 victory.
