YATTON Rugby Club recently hosted a charity rugby match between new team the Old Blues and Bristol Props.

The Props rugby side supports a Bristol-based charity, and every penny given goes directly to this worthy local charity (http://www.propsforward.org/).

The Old Blues is a newly-formed side made up of players from local clubs who want to play rugby, but also raise money for charity. The side is sponsored by Blue Iris Coaches, health and safety consultants Safety Sorted and A & Y Stone Plant Ltd.

Meeting for the first time, the Old Blues were led by Ian Spiller, and run under the supervision of Dave James, a Bristol Society referee.

The Blues raced into a three try lead with the first two scored by captain Ian Spiller. Lee Humphries crashed over for the third, before a try apiece made the score 4-1 at the break.

After the break, the Blues worked hard to protect their lead with good work by Neil Surman and Chris Edwards. The final try scored by Mat Stone saw the Blues register a 38-31 victory.

Other tries were scored by Tony Cottell and Rich Lloyd, with Paul Stephens slotting the kicking points.

This was the first Props game at Yatton, and it proved a success with about £300 being raised. Thank go to Yatton for giving both sides such a good day and all those who supported it.

A special mention must go to Centurion Rugby who made every effort to get the Old Blues shirts delivered in time for the game.
