New ladies’ rugby teams kicked off at Clevedon, with the Under-13s, Under-15s and ladies playing their first matches.

A historic day of rugby was played by the girls and women at Clevedon Rugby Club.

The afternoon was kicked off by the Under-15s team which consists of year 9 and 10 girls from Clevedon playing the girls from Nailsea & Backwell, with Clevedon come out victorious with a 46-34 score.

The Under-13 girls (year 7 and 8) played their 40-minute match, unfortunately losing to the Nailsea and Backwell team.

The Clevedon women’s team, known as the Seahawks, played their first home game against another new women’s team from Thornbury. There was lots of support for both teams, and it was a close game again which saw Thornbury score two tries in the last 10 minutes which saw them win with a final score of 30-22.

The teams are still building as they were all new last season or this season. The club welcome anyone that has an interest in playing and have teams for all ages. If your daughter would like to have a try rugby, please contact Cath at Clevedongirlsrfc@outlook.com for school years 7-10, or Tim at Timshelton2729@gmail.com for school years reception through to year 6.

For the women’s team, school years 11 upwards, please contact Kerry at clevedonwomensrfc@btinternet.com - first four weeks are free for all new players.

There will also be an Inner Warrior event on January 14 at Clevedon. This is an introduction to rugby, so if you have never picked up a ball before but have an interest in having fun, getting fitter and having lots of laughs while playing a contact sport, please keep an eye out on social media, or contact Cath or Kerry, as the Inner Warrior event will start to be advertised after Christmas.
