Matt Brothers crossed for three tries as Clevedon Colts defeated Hornets.
Clevedon Colts 20 pts
Weston Hornets 5 pts
THIS was the colts’ first league game since December and they were keen to get back into action, with a short trip to neighbours Weston Hornets.
The early exchanges were even, but Clevedon began to take control. The scrum was solid with Jack Crichton making his comeback and in the line-out, Clevedon excelled with Dan Gibbs in sparkling form.
The pressure paid off as Hornets gave away a penalty and Tom Francis converted for the first points of the match. Clevedon allowed Hornets back into the game and after a five metre scrum, Hornets scored a try.
Clevedon re-grouped at half-time and soon after the break, a crossfield kick from Francis picked out winger Matt Brothers to score in the corner. Good approach work and some good handling saw Brothers go in for his second try of the day, putting Clevedon in a clear position for the final few minutes.
Not content with playing out the game, Clevedon kept attacking and Dan Gibbs broke from a maul and passed to Brothers who raced over for his third try of the day with Francis adding the extras.
This was a good win and good squad performance with a special mention to the five under-16s, who all settled into the squad and are performing well every week.
