Gordano’s weekend of rugby was severely disrupted by the freezing conditions.
WHAT promised to be bumper weekend of rugby turned into disappointment as both Gordano first team and second team fixtures were called off due to frozen pitches.
Gordano first team were due to entertain Midsomer Norton in an already re-arranged Somerset Premier fixture and then play at Imperial in another re-scheduled Somerset Cup match.
Head coach Kevin Instance said: “It is really frustrating to have to postpone these matches. Player safety was the top priority in calling off the Saturday fixture and Imperial’s ground owners made an early call for the Sunday match for similar reasons.
“When the weather changed, the Sunday game could have been played. We had selected two squads that included several new combinations and several players that are itching to get first team experience.
“We have a large squad and I am keen to try out as many of our promising youngsters as possible. With the congested fixture list, these lads will get their opportunity before too long.”
The second team fixture at Oldfield was also postponed due to a frozen pitch.
On Saturday, Gordano hope to get their league campaign back on track when they travel to Minehead. With several re arranged fixtures to squeeze in, the £80,000 project to install state-of-the-art floodlights to the Caswell Lane Ground cannot be completed soon enough. Instance said: “We are hoping to have some games under our new lights in March.”
