Gordano Rugby Club begin the new season with a derby encounter with Clevedon.

Gordano Rugby Club start the new rugby season on Saturday when they host near neighbours Clevedon in what will be the first-ever league game between the two teams.

Gordano, who are newly promoted after being champions of Somerset Premier last season, will be in high spirits after a good pre-season which finished with a 10-try demolition of Burnham.

Gordano have worked hard over the last two months in preparation of the mouth-watering first game and with a four new signings to add to the already strong squad, the club are ready for the step up in standard.

Head coach Chris Hurd said: “We are looking forward to challenging ourselves in this league this season. Last term we beat two teams who we will face in this league, so we are confident we will continue to play the free-flowing game that did us so well last season.”

To welcome in the new season, Gordano are hosting a family day at Caswell Lane with a curtain raiser between two select XV’s before the main event which kicks off at 3pm.

During the day the club will be raising money for local charity BeMoreBen. Gates open at noon.
