CLEVEDON Under-15s faced Weston Hornets for this home match in the Somerset Cup.

Clevedon started well and Kieran Hill took them into a three point lead with a penalty. Shortly after Dan Jones crossed for a try to extend the lead and Hill added two drop goals bringing Clevedon’s total to 14 at half-time.

Hornets started the second half with renewed vigour and scored a try. Clevedon’s answer was Guy Prideaux powering over Hornets line, Hill adding the conversion.

Hornets pulled a converted try back bringing this well-fought match to a close at 21-12 and taking the Clevedon lads into the next round.

The Under-12s enjoyed an entertaining game of rugby against Yatton, running out 21-19 winners.

Yatton were too strong for Clevedon in the first half and by the time Clevedon woke up, Yatton were leading by two tries to one.

In the second half, Clevedon woke up, with brilliant tackling, running and passing from the whole team. Two tries came from Charlie Tucker and one from Jack Davey.

Connor Hughes was on form with three superb conversions.

James Dickenson, Ben Hussey, Charlie Tucker, Ben McLoughlin and James Evans were outstanding in defence and attack. This was a close match, which gave Clevedon the win due to Yatton missing one conversion.

Man of the match was Charlie Tucker.

NAILSEA and Backwell Under-12s put in another brave performance in what is turning out to be a tough season as they went head to head with North Bristol.

The 15-0 scoreline in a match without conversions was fair, but Ravens did well not to drop further points, conceding two tries in the first period and just one in the second.

Having let North Bristol score early on, Nailsea
battled well, getting close to the opposition try line only to be left standing as the home team danced between them for a 60-yard score.

The second half saw more determination with
committed tackling from winger Daniel Jupp, prop Ben Brown and a crunching, trying stopping put down from Dom Wood, standing in at full-back.

A second match against another Bristol side
unfortunately went the same way with Aretians going on to win 15-0.

Despite early indications that it might be a more even-sided game, Aretians scored three times in the first half which clearly motivated the Ravens squad as they fought through the second period without giving away any more points.

There was plenty of noteworthy tackling from Enzo Jolly, Jake Matthews, Ben Morris and man of the match prop Ben Brown.

The Under-13s entertained Bristol Saracens for the first match of 2012. As the reverse tie earlier in the season resulted in a comprehensive win, the Nailsea coaches decided to rest some of the established
players.

Nailsea made hard work of the first half allowing the big Saracens No 8 too much freedom with the ball, but Nailsea opened the scoring when the forwards finally released the backs.

The ball was moved quickly along the line to Charlie Bircham Davies who ran in a try from 40 metres,
converted by Alex Jones. Saracens continued to
pressure and ran in a try of their own for a 7-5 half-time score.

Changes were made at the break and from good forward play, the ball was moved wide presenting Sam Pain with a try in the corner.

A third try soon followed when Harvey Flower picked up at a ruck and ran through several tackles to score between the posts, again converted by Jones.

The fourth try followed when the Nailsea forwards again secured good ball which was moved wide to Dan Traviss, who burst through several tackles before offloading to the supporting Flower for his second try, Jones again adding the extras.

The final try was again scored by Nailsea when Traviss again broke the defence to score, Jones again converting for a 33-5 win.
