Clevedon slipped to another defeat, this time against Keynsham, a game the visitors could have won.

Keynsham 19 pts

Clevedon 17 pts

This was a very disappointing result for Clevedon, who probably deserved the win against Keynsham.

The hosts took the lead in the first minute with a converted try after an awful bounce evaded the Clevedon defence. The Seasiders got straight back into the game applying pressure deep into the Keynsham red zone, only to be deprived by dropping the ball on more than one occasion.

Keynsham increased their lead with a try that was dropped over the line, which was converted. The hosts, having only touched the ball twice were 14-0 up.

Back came Clevedon making huge inroads down the blindside and after a fine break from skipper Matty Honour, he offloaded for Tom Thie to score in the corner, not converted for 14-5.

Clevedons forwards had the edge in the scrums, but their usually reliable line-out left a bit to be desired. However, the driving play was good and it was from this that the Seasiders scored through Brian, converted by Adam Coles for 14-12.

Shortly afterwards Keynsham increased their lead when missed tackles in the midfield let them in for an unconverted try, for a half time lead of 19-12

The second half was much of the same with Clevedon having ample possession, but unable to score and after countless visits to the red zone, they were finally rewarded with a try from Joey Tucker, not converted for 19-17.

The last period saw Clevedon camped deep the Keynsham half, but unforced errors at the line-out and three missed penalty attempts saw them fall short at the final whistle.

Head coach Nick Hill said: “This was a bitter pill to swallow as we allowed them to score three soft tries and had more than our fair share of chances to win the game.”

On Saturday, Clevedon entertain Launceston, kick-off 2.30pm, vice-president’s lunch at 1.30pm.
