RUGY Harold, aged 15, from the Academy of Gymnastics, Portishead, took to the floor at the European women’s senior gymnastics championships in Brussels, with confidence.

For her debut on the senior stage, she performed a dazzling and difficult asymmetric bar routine, scoring 14.533 and was placed fourth individually in this apparatus. Her score contributed to Team GB placing third in the team competition qualifying round.

She stepped into the team finals two days later and did it again with a faultless bar routine, followed by a complex double twisting Yurchenko vault, this time taking Team GB into fourth place in the team finals in a closely-fought match against medallists Romania, Russia and Italy.

Ruby also put in a fine display on asymmetric bars. Her routine flowed well and she fought hard to recover from a minor error to complete the piece, taking seventh place in Europe at the tender age of 15.
