Clevedon Athletic Club had four teams in action at a 5k road relay near Gloucester.

Four Clevedon Athletic Club teams travelled to Gloucester to take part in the 5k road relays.

The two men’s teams each covered four laps of the course with the two women’s teams covering three laps.

The course started at the Beacon Inn in Haresfield with the fast loop that included a few inclines taking the competitors towards Gloucester and into the village of Colethorp, before gradually heading back to the start point.

All four teams ran exceptionally well, with the men’s A team finishing second overall and the women’s A team finishing third in the ladies’ category. Congratulations to Alex Crossland who ran the fastest lap of the day in an incredible time of 15.33.

Three members took on the challenging Big Cheese race in Cheddar. This is a 15-mile trail race involving 2,000ft of climbing up and around the Mendip Hills. Weather conditions on the day made for an exciting combination of hail, wind and water to also contend with.

Ben Burns was first home for Clevedon in 1.57.25 and 14th position overall, followed by Jim Hardcastle 2.05.36 and Andy King 2.57.19.

If you want to join in with the success of Clevedon Athletic Club, please come along to a training session, whether it is the weekly circuit training at Clevedon School gym on a Monday or the running sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays that meet at Strode Leisure Centre.

All sessions start at 7pm and there are different groups for different abilities. Keep up to date with club news by liking us on Facebook or following us on Twitter.
