SOPHIE Millard from Clevedon, showed great promise by beating allcomers at the British TAGB Tae-Kwon-Do Championships in Telford at her first attempt.

Competing for the first time in the senior women’s middleweight category, Sophie, who attends Backwell School, fought her way through against a competitor from London, an awkward fighter who had bamboozled her opponents as she comfortably made the final.

With thanks to coach Jane Lambert, Sophie, from the Gemini TKD Club in Portishead, was able to work out and execute a strategy to beat her more experienced opponent, and deservedly land her first National Championship gold.

This follows on from last year’s South West title, and triple silver in the English Championships.
