Clevedon Ladies made the short trip to Gordano for this season’s opener.

Debutants Amy Douglas, Shenede Fourie and Ashlee Carter performed well in midfield as Clevedon held the home side in check.

Caitlin Meredith and Ella Davey tested the Lodway defence but as the game wore on, Lodway put pressure on the visitor’s back line, Rachel Elliot, Laura Gillespie and Tamsin DeBude worked hard to protect keeper Christina Becker, however when called on Becker reacted positively.

Clevedon built up their attacks, Anna Barzotelli distributing the ball effectively, before a long ball from Gillespie found Davey who gave the visitors the lead with a precise finish. The home side fought back and levelled the score with a powerful finish.

After the break, Clevedon’s defence found themselves under great pressure but they regained control and went ahead when Davey picked out Daisy Lacey unmarked at the far post and she tucked the ball home to put Clevedon ahead.

More attacks saw Carter’s shot well saved as the visitors threatened to increase their lead. Lodway however had other ideas and put the Clevedon defence under enormous pressure, but wonderful battling and great play notably from Becker kept them out as Clevedon finished victorious.

Next Saturday, Clevedon entertain Cheddar, 10.30am start at Clevedon School.
