Racing driver Lewis Ryder is looking to challenge on the national scene in the VW Racing Cup.

An aspiring racing driver from Flax Bourton is looking to challenge on the national scene in the VW Racing Cup.

Lewis Ryder, aged 18, is having a year out of education, but will be studying motorsport engineering at Coventry University from September, and is currently working as an Amazon delivery driver.

The former Clifton High School pupil said: “I have been karting competitively for six years, with my final year being the most successful, with the highlight being finishing second in a round of the Southern TKM Championship.

“Last year I was given the opportunity to compete in two races with a VW Golf. My first race was at Silverstone, where I learned a lot about the car and improved hugely to finish fifth in class out of 12.

“My second race was at Castle Combe and I continued to improve and finished third in class and on the podium.

Lewis has reached the final of a VW Racing Scholarship with Team HARD Racing. From an initial 70 entrants, he is down to the last 10 shootout and the winner receives a fully-funded drive in the VW Racing Cup, a very competitive national championship.
