CLEVEDON Freshwater Angling Club held a competition against Fry’s Angling Club from Bristol on Apex Lake in Highbridge last weekend.

Although the weather was dry and sunny, a cold wind and an overnight frost affected the fishing. It was a case of a softly softly approach in terms of how much bait was put in to try and tempt the fish.

The bottom end of the lake produced the most fish, mainly due to the shelter provided by the wind from the high bank.

Rob Garland from Fry’s more or less
won the competition in the first half-hour, catching three good carp on bread and
then adding a few bream during the
rest of the match for a total weight of
28lb 08oz.

Second and the man to beat at the moment was Clevedon angler Adie Baker with a net of bream for 20lb 11oz and third was another Fry’s angler Brian Derrick, with a mixed bag of fish for 12lb 15oz.

Clevedon won the competition overall
with a total weigh of 43lb 08oz to Fry’s
41lb 07oz.
