Somerset Gryphons Ladies first team let slip a two-goal lead to earn a point in Exeter.
Somerset Gryphons Ladies first team travelled to Exeter to take on Exe and were disappointed to come home with one point after a 2-2 draw, losing their top of the league position.
Elaine Basterfield quickly opened the scoring after Gryphons dominated early play, with a close-range shot hitting the backboard following impressive pressure from the midfield unit.
After another 15 minutes, a tackle and subsequent cross from Leanne Cockram saw Lara Ford pick up the ball in front of the Exe goalkeeper and slip it behind for a neat second goal.
Unfortunately, Gryphs were unable to maintain their momentum and allowed Exe increased possession of the ball, resulting in them clawing back a scrappy goal before half time.
The Gryphons did not return to early form for the second half and the game remained either teams for the taking. Exe held their composure better and pulled back a deserved goal from open play after forcing the Gryphons backwards.
Despite the efforts of the forwards, Somerset Gryphons could not break into the D and the score remained a draw.
Player of the match was awarded to Beth Friend for a consistent performance in defence.
