Sue, Sally and Sarah storm home in the ladies’ open

An in-form trio of Clevedon Golf Club ladies won the open bowmaker held at the club.

Anyone studying the entry list for the ladies’ open bowmaker at Clevedon Golf Club would have thought that the team to beat would be that of Sue Tasker, Sally Anderson and Sarah Martin.

The Clevedon trio have all enjoyed individual success this season, and coming together as a team were sure to mount a strong challenge. In the end, they put together a winning score of 87 points which took them a full six points clear of their closest challengers.

In the runner-up position and taking the prize for the best visitors were Lena Warren, Jenny Ahlberg and Rosemary Brown from Farrington Park. They finished just a point in front of Clevedon’s Susie Gibbins, Merriel Horler and Rosemary Fife.

In the junior open it was the visitors who took the individual honours, when county players Aston Wylie and Arabella White had the best gross scores on the day. Ashton, from Wells finished with a creditable gross score of 76, while Lansdown’s Arabella returned a score of 79. Overall third was Clevedon’s Harrison Selwyn, also with a gross 79.

In the June medal, Garry Birth had the best score on the day with a nett 67 to win Division 3. Michael Crook edged Mike Parker into second place on countback at the top of Division 1 with scores of 68. Ian Sellick won Division 2, also scoring 68, while the best gross score on the day was Andy Ferris on 74.

The midweek Stableford went to Derek Quinn-Hall with a total of 43 points.

Junior open: Ashton Wylie (Wells) 76 gross; Arabella White (Lansdown) 79; Harrison Selwyn (Clevedon) 79; Charlie Goss (Clevedon) 83; Tom Roberts (Wells) 84.

June medal - Division 1: Michael Crook 68 nett (countback); Mike Parker 68; Timothy Stubbs 69. Division 2: Ian Sellick 68; Rick Smith 69; James Sharrod 71. Division 3: Gary Birth 67; Simon Wright 73; Anthony Stott 74.

Club midweek Stableford: Derek Quinn-Hall 43 pts; Andrew Ferris 41; Simon Gill 40.
