Clevedon Golf Club held its popular turkey trot event as the club becomes more focussed on team events.

As autumn begins to turn to winter, the competitions at Clevedon Golf Club become more focussed on team events rather than individuals.

Last weekend saw the playing of one of the most popular in the calendar, the annual turkey trot. Teams of four competed in a Texas scramble format, with the lowest nett scores taking the prizes.

Leading the way were Alister Meredith, Andrew Creton, Michael Cook and Glenn Twistleton with a total of 58.1, just 0.3 strokes ahead of the chasing pack.

The ladies’ section will be playing their turkey trot today (Wed), but limbered up with a three-person bowmaker, with the best two scores on each hole to count.

Ladies’ captain Sue Liddeatt led her team to victory, together with Sandra Jones and Sandy Hill, they out-gunned the rest of the field with a total of 75 points.

The club held its annual presentation evening in front of a crowded clubhouse. Andrew and Charlotte Millington won the prestigious Ross-Goobey Trophy in the mixed knockout, while ladies’ competition secretary Heather Priestley spent a lot of the evening presenting trophies to herself after winning several competitions this year.

Results - club Texas trot: Alister Meredith, Andrew Creton, Michael Cook and Glenn Twistleton 58.1; Gareth Manning, Phil Thompson, Peter Rendle and Richard Skuse 58.4 (countback); Tim Gibbs, Adrian Burrows, Paul Madge and Derek Tate 58.4.

Ladies bowmaker: Sandra Jones, Sandy Hill and Sue Liddeatt 75 pts; Sue Tasker, Evelyn Childs and Alison Hodgson 73; Linda Reynolds, Sarah Martin and Carol Kirkwood 72.
