Two outstanding individual performances were recorded at Clevedon Golf Club, with a first hole-in-one for Jackie Parkins after 50 years of trying.

There were two outstanding individual performances at Clevedon Golf Club during the week’s competitions.

In the ladies’ Stableford competition, Jackie Parkins recorded her first hole-in-one after 50 years of trying. Great Grandmother Jackie, a member at the Club for 44 years, holed her tee shot on the 130-yard fifth hole.

Jackie said: “I thought I had hit a good shot, but could not see my ball on the green, so I was searching in the long grass at the back thinking it had run through. It was only when my playing partner Dianne Rennell looked in the hole that we realised that I had scored a hole-in-one – it was a dream come true.”

In the midweek Stableford, John Vickerstaff went round in an incredible score of three under par, earning a total of 48 points to win the competition and a two-shot handicap reduction.

He finished six points ahead of closest rivals Molly Hocking and George Cawse. Philip Jones came out top of Division 2 with a creditable score of 40.

Men’s invitation day took place on Saturday, and in a high scoring contest, Andrew Robertson and partner Richard Moore came out on top with a betterball score of 48 points. They pushed Brian Banahan and Peter Yensen into second place on countback with a better score over the closing six holes.

Lesley Beer took the honours in the ladies’ Stableford, notching a total of 41 points to win Division 3, pipping Vicki Sach who finished just one point behind.

In Division 1, Sandra Jones, Carol Kirkwood and Caroline Fairhurst all recorded scores of 36, with Sandra taking top spot on countback, and Jacqui Toogood’s total of 38 was the best Division 2 score
