Clevedon Golf Club’s Heather Priestley kept up her fine form with victory in the ladies’ betterball open.

Heather Priestley continued her run of excellent results at Clevedon Golf Club.

Teaming up with Caroline Durbin from Kenilworth Golf Club, the in-form Heather scored 42 points to win the ladies’ betterball open. They opened with a remarkable run of eight straight pars before finally dropping a shot on the ninth hole.

Their form deserted them a little on the back nine where a further five shots were dropped, but they had scored enough points to keep the field at bay, winning by two points.

Lesley Moore and Kathy Shiells from Stockwood Vale earned the runners-up position and prize for best visitors, with a score of 42. They pipped the home pair of Sandra Jones and Laureen Angell on countback over the last nine holes.

Paul Faulkner was the Division 1 and overall winner of the August medal competition with a nett score of a five under par 67. It was a fairly inauspicious start to the round as he opened with a triple bogey seven before his form returned with two birdies and five pars on the next seven holes. The back nine showed a consistent level of golf brought him home two shots clear of the field.

In Division 2, Jim Sharrod pushed Mike Morfitt into second place on countback, both ending on scores of 69, with promising junior Alfie Hocking took Division 3 with a nett score of 72.

It was a good week for the Hocking family, as earlier in the week, Alfie took top spot in the midweek Stableford. A score of 44 points was the best of the day and Division 2 winner. Division 1 was won by David Barnes with 40 points, one point better than Hocking the elder (father Matt).

In the course of a week, Alfie has cut five shots off his handicap and Matt has been reduced by two.

Results – ladies’ betterball open: Heather Priestley (Clevedon) and Caroline Durbin (Kenilworth) 44 pts; Lesley Moore and Kathy Shiells (both Stockwood Vale) 42; Sandra Jones and Laureen Angell (both Clevedon) 42; Rosemary Fife and Debbie Quinn-Hall (both Clevedon) 41; Susie Gibbins and Sue Bamford (both Clevedon).
