Clevedon Golf Club ladies have reached the final of the Somerset County Rogers Cup after an emphatic 6-1 victory over Oake Manor.

The fine form of members of Clevedon Golf Club continued last week with some excellent team and individual performances.

The ladies team have reached the final of the Somerset County Rogers Cup after an emphatic win over Oake Manor at Saltford.

The team of Laureen Angell, Molly Hocking, Carol Kirkwood, Alison Lee, Charlotte Millington, Heather Priestley and Linda Reynolds came away with a 6-1 victory, and will face Saltford in the final at Bath on September 2.

John Vickerstaff put in another trophy winning performance to become the seniors’ club champion. A round of 78 was just one shot better that Alan Stevenson. John has been benefitting from coaching from Clevedon head professional Ryan Crowley and has seen his handicap come down four shots since the beginning of June.

John said: “What has helped particularly is the lesson I had with Ryan to improve my short game. I feel so much more confident around the greens and this has really helped to improve my scores.” Trevor Jennens won the nett competition with a score of 65.

Dave Wilmot won the Chairman’s Cup competition with a total of 42 points to finish top of Division 2. Charlie Batson took top spot in Division 1 and Ian Dibble won Division 3, both with scores of 41 points.

The club midweek Stableford was won by Jason Wallace with a total of 40 points.

Results - Chairman’s Cup - Division 1: Charlie Batson 41 pts; George Cawse 40; Reg Wiles 39 (countback). Division 2: Dave Wilmot 42; Stephen Spencer 40 (countback); Alison Lee 40. Division 3: Ian Dibble 41; Alan Wild 40; Nazir Sarkar 38.

Seniors’ club championship – gross: John Vickerstaff 78; Alan Stevenson 79 (countback); Martin Reid 79; Robert Arthur 79. Nett: Trevor Jennens 65; Paul Jeffery 66; Bernard Druce 68.

Ladies’ Chairman’s Cup: Alison Lee & Susan Tasker 72.5 (countback); Sally Anderson & Sarah Martin 72.5; Laureen Angell & Debbie Quinn-Hall 76.0.

Club midweek Stableford: Jason Wallace 40 pts; George Cawse 39 (countback); Phil Mills 39.
