Clevedon Golf Club saw another week of competitions, with some fine scoring being recorded by home players and visitors.

The summer season at Clevedon Golf Club saw another busy week of competitions, with some exceptional scores being returned.

The highlight of the week was the Clevedon mixed open played for the Cam Gears Bowl. Winners of the gross competition were Clevedon captain Dave McGovern, who was partnered by the in-form Heather Priestley.

Their victory was secured by countback over the last nine holes as their total was matched by Dayson Pearce and Kay Whiting from The Kendleshire. Clevedon’s Tony and Liz Jarvis won the nett competition with a score of 41 points, just ahead of John and Anne Worby from Stoke Park.

The club welcomed more visitors when the ladies’ section held their annual invitation day. Marian Crewe and her guest, Fay Austin from Chipping Sodbury, amassed a remarkable 46 points to win the competition by two points.

The seniors’ held a Stableford competition that was won in fine style by Gordon Ogden. His total of 43 was the best of the day and was easily good enough to win Division 1 from Mike Butler in second place.

It was a similar story in Division 2 where Bernard Druce had a clear three-point margin of victory over Glyn Hickman.
