Clevedon Town chose to field a youthful side with six teenagers in the starting line-up and another two on the bench and guided by the senior players they put in an excellent performance to overcome a determined Wells City.

Clevedon were quickly into their stride with Clayton Fortune going close from a corner and Morgan Davies threatening. The hosts went close again when an Alex Russell cross found Fortune, whose turn and shot was acrobatically pushed wide by Wells keeper Mike Dangerfield.

In the 23rd minute, a cross from Liam Dempsey saw man of the match Morgan Williams throw himself at the ball and send his header just wide and soon after Lucas Vowles has a shot well saved.

Clevedon took the lead in the 36th minute when a Russell cross was punched clear by Dangerfield with the ball falling to Vowles on the edge of the box, who picked his spot and fire the ball into the net.

Wells kept pushing forward and managed to equalise on 42 minutes to make the half-time score 1-1.

Clevedon re-took the lead on 48 minutes when they won a free-kick 25 yards from goal. Russell stepped up and saw his shot deflect off the wall and wrong-foot the keeper before dropping into the net.

Clevedon could have gone further ahead in the 52nd minute when a strong run by Tyler Ashmead saw him cross the ball to Vowles, but the keeper foiled his effort.

Fortune headed the ball off the line from a Street corner, before Davies and Liam Dempsey both went close. Substitute Jack Sell also went close before Wells were reduced to 10 men in the 77th minute when Ben Warren collected his second yellow card.

Clevedon were able to make the game safe and take the three points and move up to eighth in the table.

This was the first of five home games in December and Clevedon will be hoping that more spectators visit The Everyone Active Stadium to watch a team containing many young local lads.

Clevedon are next in action on Saturday when Cribbs visit The Everyone Active Stadium with a 3pm kick-off.

Clevedon Town: D Wallis, S Simpson, L Dempsey (J Sell 70), C Kingdon, T Baker, C Fortune, A Russell, M Williams, L Vowles (N Groom 82), M Davies (J Fisher 70), T Ashmead.
